Breaking: Bulls Clean House in Major Firings

A fourth straight year of missing the playoffs, and eighth in the last nine, has led to the Chicago Bulls cleaning house. They've fired executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas and his top assistant Marc Eversley.

“We have not had the success our fans deserve, and it’s my responsibility to go in a new direction,” Bulls CEO Michael Reinsdorf said, in part, in a statement. “This move is about positioning our team for sustained success moving ahead.”

The moves come just one week after the team made news by waiving talented guard Jaden Ivey for commenting on his religious beliefs on Instagram.

The front office shakeup will take the Bulls in another direction—again—in an attempt to return the team to prominence.

The Bulls had just one winning season and one single playoff game victory in six years under Karnišovas.

They brought in high-priced veterans like DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, and they more recently made bold trades like the one that sent feisty defensive guard Alex Caruso to the OKC Thunder for Josh Giddey. But they were never able to find the right mix.

The Bulls have not won a playoff series in 11 years. This year, they are 29-49 with four games to play, in the 12th seed in the East.
