3 Timberwolves Who Won't Return Next Season
It was an ugly way to go out. The Minnesota Timberwolves' playoff run wrapped up with an embarrassing 30-point loss to the San Antonio Spurs and a six-game series defeat in the second round. It's left all sorts of questions for this offseason if the T-Wolves hope to truly be a serious contender in a tough Western Conference.
With that, let's have a look at three players who will not be back in Minnesota for the 2026-27 season.
Julius Randle
After a disastrous playoff performance from Randle, it's clear that Anthony Edwards needs a more reliable scorer to help take the pressure off him and to be able to help out in a playoff run. Randle contributed a meager three points and one assist in Minnesota's elimination blowout. He has a player option on a $35.8M salary for next season, and the team may have to throw a sweetener into any deal to unload him on another team.
"The Timberwolves won't fully flourish unless Randle is off the roster in favor of players who can actually step up to the magnitude of the moment," writes Randall Barnes of Clutch Points.
Kyle Anderson
The 32-year-old forward returned to the team this season after being signed following a buyout from the Grizzlies. He served a bench role for 19 games, but was a complete afterthought in the playoffs.
"It's becoming increasingly clear that elite 3-point shooting is the lone path to beating the Spurs and Thunder. Anderson fell out of favor in the Wolves' rotation in large part due to his poor shooting," wrote Eamon Cassels in Dunking With Wolves.
Joe Ingles
This one's a slam dunk, as we already learned that the 38-year-old plans to join Melbourne United in Australia's National Basketball League next season. He's an unrestricted free agent, and is ready to head back home to finish up his playing career. He played minimal minutes and games in his two years in Minnesota, and his NBA career will come to an end after 12 seasons.
