Breaking: Masai Ujiri Takes Over Western Conference Team
He's now "We The South."
In a shocking announcement out of Dallas on Monday, the Mavericks have announced that they're hiring former Toronto Raptors boss Masai Ujiri as their new President.
BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks are hiring Masai Ujiri as the franchise's new Team President and Alternate Governor, sources tell me and @BannedMacMahon. Ujiri ran the Toronto Raptors from 2013 to 2025, serving as the architect of the 2019 NBA championship team. pic.twitter.com/ZsRwzwWHDt

Ujiri was the head man at the Raptors for 12 years, and will forever be remembered north of the border as the man who built the team that brought the NBA championship to Toronto in 2019.
The hiring of Masai in Dallas is the result of a six-month search process. The team fired previous GM Nico Harrison, who will forever be remembered in Big D as the guy who traded Luka Doncic. Ujiri, on the other hand, is forever remembered in Toronto as the man who traded FOR Kawhi Leonard.
He also won the Executive of the Year award in 2012-13 with the Denver Nuggets, before signing on with the Raptors. He parted ways with Toronto after the NBA Draft last summer.
He begins his reign with the Mavericks with a blue-chip young player in Cooper Flagg, and will now decide how to build around him. It feels almost certain that trading Kyrie Irving will be one big move that Masai will have to make this summer.
"I'm honored to join the Dallas Mavericks and step into this role at such an important time for the organization," Ujiri said in a statement. "This is a franchise with a proud history, passionate fans, and a commitment to winning. I look forward to working with our players, coaches, and leadership team to build something that reflects that standard and competes at the highest level. We will win in Dallas."
