Massive Update For Timberwolves on Anthony Edwards

The Minnesota Timberwolves dug deep and knocked off the Denver Nuggets in the first round despite the absence of their entire starting backcourt for the last two games, including superstar Anthony Edwards.

He was expected to be out for an extended period after suffering a hyperextended knee midway through that series. At the time of the injury, insider Shams Charania said that Ant was "expected to miss multiple weeks."

It looks like we can scratch that. In a huge update from insider Chris Haynes, as of late Sunday afternoon, Edwards has been upgraded to "questionable" for Game 1.

Just one week after going down, Edwards has been cleared for on-court activities, and he should be ready, if not for Game 1, at some point early on in their upcoming second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs. Charania's report from earlier on Sunday seems to be outdated, however:

"He'll be missing Game 1, and likely Game 2 as well," said Charania. "But he did get his first workouts in on Saturday and Sunday... And he also traveled with the team to San Antonio.

"There's optimism around team sources about his status overall, and I'm told that Anthony Edwards himself could push to be back in the lineup potentially for Game 3 or Game 4 at the earliest.

"It's really just gonna be about how he feels, and how his rehab goes on a daily basis here this upcoming week. Minnesota is going to be conservative with him because remember, he has also been dealing with runners' knee in his opposite knee for the last month plus."

Most of what Shams said seems to be out the window after Ant was upgraded to Questionable later in the day.

Edwards averaged a career-high 28.8 points this past season, earning his 4th straight All-Star berth.

That second-round series against the Spurs gets underway on Monday night in San Antonio. With Victor Wembanyama & Co. operating at full throttle, the T-Wolves will obviously need a healthy Edwards to have a chance.
