NBA Trade Rumor: Proposed Deal Sees Masai Ujiri Send Kyrie Irving To Raptors
Now that Masai Ujiri is back at the helm of an NBA club with the Dallas Mavericks, could he be thinking of dealing with his old team north of the border on a huge trade?
All eyes are on Kyrie Irving's future in Dallas as the offseason starts to move along, and there have been many suggested potential trade partners already. We recently took a look at a blockbuster that could move Kyrie to a Western Conference contender.
Another rumor that comes to us would be the potential of Ujiri calling up his former general manager Bobby Webster with the Toronto Raptors, and making a proposed offer like the following, as suggested by Christopher Kline in Fansided.
Toronto Raptors receive:
- Kyrie Irving
Dallas Mavericks receive:
- Immanuel Quickley
- Gradey Dick
- 2026 First-round pick (19th overall)
- 2028 First-round pick (lottery protected)
For the Raptors, they showed a solid upside in the playoffs with Scottie Barnes legitimately showing as a No. 1 star that could lead them to bigger things. But they'll need to get creative to get to the next level, as they're pretty close to maxed out, just under the luxury tax aprons.
"Until Toronto balances its spacing and adds a more reliable creator on the perimeter, however, their ceiling will be capped," writes Kline.
He calls Irving's skill set "a damn near perfect fit" for what the Raptors need. A creator and floor spacer who can score the basketball from inside and out, would be a beautiful complement to the likes of Barnes, Brandon Ingram and breakthrough rookie Collin Murray-Boyles.
As for Irving being a negative at the defensive end of the floor, that would be erased by Barnes, CMB, Jakob Poeltl, Jamal Shead, and a strong system in place.
For Dallas, Kline notes that it was Masai who drafted Dick and traded for Quickley in Toronto, as well as giving him his massive five-year contract, so he might believe that they can be strong pieces for him in Dallas. Quickley is under contract for three more years, one more than Irving, so it wouldn't be a long-term cap crusher compared to what they have now.
And of course, another strong pick in this year's draft for a re-tooling team, and another first-rounder for the future would be key parts of this deal for the Mavs as well.
