Chris Paul Finally To Join LA Lakers?

The year was 2011, when a complicated three-time blockbuster was on the verge of sending legendary point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers. Until NBA Commissioner David Stern infamously blocked the deal.

Now, 15 years later, there's a good chance that CP3, now retired as a player, could finally get to join the Lakers. But this time, in an executive role. 

Chris Paul could soon have a front office role on the Lakers after their ownership change, per @mcten.

According to a report from Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Paul's close friendship with the Lakers' new majority co-owner Bob Iger could see him take a role with the organization. 

Former Disney CEO Iger, along with venture capitalist Josh Kushner, completed a record-breaking $12.5 billion purchase of the Lakers on Wednesday. 

"In projecting what a new Lakers front office could eventually look like, multiple sources around the league suggested to ESPN that recently retired Chris Paul could have a role," wrote McMenamin. 

"Paul and Iger became close while the point guard played for the Clippers and Iger was a season-ticket holder."

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne echoed those sentiments.

"There's a couple names you should pay attention to: Chris Paul, very close friend of Bob Iger's. He's sort of a mentor to Chris Paul," Shelburne said on NBA Today. "Chris recently retired. He's available, incredible basketball mind. I don't know what that means for him, but I expect they'll be talking."

CP3 is a 12-time NBA All-Star and one of the greatest point guards of all-time. He never won an NBA championship during his 21-year career, but if he finds his way into the Lakers' front office, he could have a chance someday to get himself one as an executive.
