Milwaukee Bucks Not Interested In This Kuminga Trade Pitch From Warriors

The Milwaukee Bucks are a late entrant to the Jonathan Kuminga drama, per insider Brett Siegel of Clutch Points. But the Golden State Warriors' demand in return for a sign-and-trade of their unhappy RFA was not something the Bucks were interested in.

Siegel writes that big man Bobby Portis, the only piece left in Milwaukee from the 2021 championship team other than Giannis Antetokounmpo, was who the Dubs wanted in exchange for Kuminga.

It is also worth mentioning that the Milwaukee Bucks were another team that kicked around the idea of pursuing Kuminga. If they were to do so, the Warriors made it known they would want Bobby Portis in a sign-and-trade scenario, which is something Milwaukee wasn't willing to do.

Siegel adds that Golden State has had interest in Portis going all the way back to before the 2024 NBA trade deadline.

Portis remains a valuable piece for the Bucks, averaging 13.9 points per game and 8.4 rebounds last season, playing his usual energy role off the bench. He was a finalist for Sixth Man of the Year in 2023 and 2024, finishing third in the balloting both times. He shot a career high 83.6% from the free throw line last year, though his usually strong three-point shooting dipped a bit, to 36.5%. He's averaged just a tick under 40% from long range in his five years in Milwaukee.

As for Kuminga and the Warriors, the latest indications are that the Dubs will simply hang on to him, once he decides on which contract offer to take—the qualifying offer of $7.9M, or a two-year, $45 million offer, which has a club option on the second year.

The standoff continues.
