NBA Trade Rumors: Heat's Andrew Wiggins Linked to Recent NBA Champion
We're into the dog days of August, and while trades and signings have hit a bit of a lull, that doesn't mean that teams haven't been trying. The Miami Heat, for instance, have had all sorts of teams approach them about former No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, per insider Brett Siegel of Clutch Points (h/t heavy.com). And one of them is a team that would like to get back to being a championship contender.
This offseason, the Miami Heat were willing to discuss trade scenarios involving Andrew Wiggins, and several teams expressed interest in the former NBA champion and All-Star wing, sources said. The Milwaukee Bucks, league sources said, were one of the teams to inquire about Wiggins.
The Bucks need to do everything they can to persuade Giannis Antetokounmpo to stay in Milwaukee, rather than ask for a trade. All they've managed to do this summer thus far is to stretch-and-waive Damian Lillard (who they'll be paying $22.5M to for each of the next five years), watch Brook Lopez leave in free agency, and sign center Myles Turner to a huge deal.
Wiggins would add another player with a ring, to go along with the only two Bucks players who are still remaining from their 2021 title, Giannis and Bobby Portis.
But the Heat have maintained a hefty price to pry Wiggins loose, per Siegel, who says the only way Pat Riley would consider trading the 3-and-D wing was "if they received an instant impact player, along with an upcoming first-round pick before 2028."
So Wiggins stays in South Beach for now, but trade talk could certainly be revived again as we approach the deadline in February, if not sooner.
