NBA Trade Rumors: 2 Teams in Pursuit of Pelicans' Trey Murphy
Former first-rounder Trey Murphy III has elevated himself into a true star after four NBA seasons, averaging 21.2 points per game last year with the New Orleans Pelicans, along with 5.1 boards and 3.5 assists.
Last October, the Pels gambled, after back-to-back 14.5 points per game seasons, to re-up with Murphy on a four-year, $112 million extension to kick in this coming season. It paid off big-time with his breakout year.
But two teams have been trying to pry him loose from The Big Easy. But it's been... Big Difficult talking trade with the Pels.
NBA insider Jake Fischer, in The Stein Line, reported that two hopeful contenders in the Western Conference have been courting Murphy, to no avail.
The Warriors and Spurs are showing interest in Trey Murphy III, per @JakeLFischer

Sources say that the Warriors have a strong affinity for Murphy and have made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer...
Another team known to have registered trade interest in Murphy, sources say, is San Antonio...Yet sources say that the Pelicans, to be clear, have batted away calls for the 25-year-old, valuing him highly.
That certainly makes sense, after the year Murphy just had. New Orleans traded away Brandon Ingram last season to the Toronto Raptors, leaving Murphy, Zion Williamson (whenever he's available) and newly-acquired Jordan Poole to handle the offense.
As for the Spurs, they're looking for one more big scorer at forward take them to the next level, with their star backcourt of Stephon Castle and De'Aaron Fox, along with generational talent Victor Wembanyama in the middle.
The Warriors are also looking for one more scorer to complement Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. They've also been making calls on one very notable—but much older—star forward.
