Klay Thompson Goes OFF on Ja Morant: ‘Nothing Intelligent’
Ja Morant continues to be a lightning rod for controversy this season. With a couple of league suspensions in his past for gun-related incidents, he earned himself another suspension earlier this month by the Memphis Grizzlies for "conduct detrimental to the team." He has since been labelled a potential trade candidate this season.
He's been out with a calf strain the past few games, but that didn't stop him from ratcheting up the chaos after the Grizzlies' latest game with the Dallas Mavericks. Morant, in his street clothes, was jawing at Klay Thompson after a Memphis win.
Let's just say that the veteran guard wasn't too happy with Morant's latest clown antics, and went OFF on Ja after the game:
Nothing of intelligent depth. It was really just running his mouth. He's been running is mouth for a long time. It's funny to run your mouth when you're on the bench... He's just been letting a lot of other stuff get in the way (of playing). We need our best players in the NBA to be out there. When you're a star it comes with great responsibility. I hate to see that go to waste.
Morant is having his lowest-scoring season in six years (17.9 ppg), and playing his least amount of minutes per game in his seven-year career (28.8). He sat out a one-game suspension earlier this season for a post-game exchange with his head coach in the locker room. He's also missed three of the last four games with a calf strain.
The Grizzlies are 6-11 this season, but somehow hold down a Play-In spot at the moment, in 10th in the Western Conference. The Mavericks are even worse, at 5-13.
