Top 10 NBA Trade Candidates Heading Into Trade Season Post-Thanksgiving
Coming out of Thanksgiving, it's just over two months to the NBA trade deadline. Talks will be picking up. We've already heard several names mentioned on the rumor mill throughout the season's first several weeks. Now it's time to aggregate it all into a Top 10 NBA Trade Candidates list, as compiled by Bleacher Report.
- Lauri Markkanen, Utah Jazz
- Anthony Davis, Dallas Mavericks
- Trey Murphy III, New Orleans Pelicans
- LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets
- Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings
- Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
- Daniel Gafford, Dallas Mavericks
- Ja Morant, Memphis Grizzlies
- Nic Claxton, Brooklyn Nets
- Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors
Markkanen has been mentioned in rumors almost since he arrived in Utah four years ago. But CEO Danny Ainge is still holding onto the lethal scorer, who is off to a sensational start to the season, averaging a career-high 28.5 points per game. With his value also at an all-time high, it might finally be time for Ainge to pull the trigger on a Markkanen deal.
Ever since the firing of Nico Harrison, the man responsible for Anthony Davis being in Dallas instead of Luka Doncic, it's been expected that AD will be on his way out next. And while former majority owner Mark Cuban has tried to tell anyone who'll listen that the Mavs won't be trading Davis, we all know better by now than to buy into anything Cuban is selling.
LaMelo Ball finally came out earlier this month and made it clear he'd like a move out of Charlotte. The dynamic point guard is one of the top backcourt players in the league, but his substantial injury history (and salary) might make it tough to deal him. Trae Young and Ja Morant are the other big-name superstar point guards on this list. Each has their own pros and cons as well. For Young, the con is his complete lack of defensive skills, while for Morant, it's his bad-boy image and a penchant for getting suspended for his off-court transgressions.
In Sacramento, while DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine have been floated by the Kings as trade pieces, it seems that Sabonis would bring back a better return.
And at the bottom of the list is another name that's been an inevitable trade candidate all the way back to the summer. Pending free agent Kuminga is almost certain to be dealt when he becomes eligible on January 15th.
