This Toronto Raptors' Offer for Trae Young Was Rejected by Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks' return for Trae Young from the Washington Wizards was somewhat unremarkable, with no true star player coming back their way. But there's another deal that was on the table for them at one point from the Toronto Raptors that the Hawks rebuffed.

Per insider Jake Fischer, the Raptors offered Immanuel Quickley and draft picks to Atlanta for Young at last year's deadline, and were still in on him this year.

“Sources say that Toronto actually offered a package built around Quickley and draft capital for Young before last February's trade deadline and maintained a level of interest in Young this season. Yet sources say that the Hawks had no interest in a Quickley-headlined package given the future money he's owed. The Hawks staunchly prioritized the ample flexibility they now have before the Feb. 5 trade buzzer and possibly into free agency next summer by taking back CJ McCollum’s expiring $30.7 million salary as the key return in their Young deal," said Fischer.

How this will play out for Quickley's relationship with the Raptors, now that the word is out, should be intriguing.

Quickley is in just the second season of a five-year, $162.5 million dollar deal with the Raptors, that runs through the 2028-29 season.

He's averaging 16.4 points and 6.2 assists per game this season along with 1.1 steals. He's shooting 35.6% from long distance, including the buzzer-beating game-winner earlier this week against Charlotte.

The question now is will the Raptors attempt to make the same deal for another mercurial star point guard who's become available?
