NBA Trade Rumor: Kyrie Irving Heads to Orlando Magic

The Kyrie Irving trade talk is picking up steam this summer in a big way. Proposed deals are coming at us left and right. It's obvious that keeping Kyrie around to dominate the ball doesn't make sense when the Dallas Mavericks need to center everything they do going forward around this year's Rookie of the Year, phenom Cooper Flagg.

Irving, 34, is coming off a full year away from the court recovering from a torn ACL.

But there are plenty of teams that might feel the nine-time All-Star will still be able to play at an elite level.

With that, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has proposed a Kyrie trade "that actually makes sense", sending him to the Orlando Magic.

Orlando Magic receive:

  • Kyrie Irving

Dallas Mavericks receive:
  • Jalen Suggs
  • Second-round pick, 2026 (No. 46)
  • 2028 second-round pick (via LAL or WAS)

The Magic bowed out in the first round of the playoffs for the third straight season, and they badly need "tangible on-court improvements like better organization, live-dribble scoring, outside shooting and defense-dissecting distributing," writes Buckley.

That all sounds an awful lot like Kyrie Irving.

As Buckley continued, "When Orlando's offense bogs down in the half-court, things get ugly. Like, divert-your-attention type of atrocious." Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Desmond Bane can score the ball, but without a proper distributor, and/or a floor spacer to give them the room to operate, the Magic are incomplete.

The price isn't too hefty for Orlando in this mock trade, and that's to be expected, as Irving hasn't played since the 2024-25 season, and will be turning 35 late next season.

Meanwhile, Dallas gets a couple of draft picks, and a potential keeper in Suggs, to provide some dogged defense in the backcourt.

"A Flagg-Suggs tandem could be elite defensively and dynamic in transition," writes Buckley. "This feels like the next logical step on Dallas' long road to redemption."
