In a late-night deal, the Atlanta Hawks & Oklahoma City Thunder pulled off the first swap of NBA trade season, as Atlanta acquires rotation wing Aaron Wiggins for two second-round picks.

Wiggins was a solid part of the Thunder rotation during the past two regular seasons, though he got squeezed out in the playoffs this spring.

With projected luxury tax penalties approaching for OKC, this deal clears a roster spot and allows them to get off some salary. They still must figure out how they can bring back Lu Dort and Isaiah Hartenstein, who have team options for the coming season.

Wiggins has three more years to run with a $9M cap hit this season.

The 6'5" guard was a key part of the Thunder's 2025 championship, with 12 ppg off the bench.

Wiggins' arrival in Atlanta as an offensive wing calls into question the futures of Buddy Hield (who has only a partially guaranteed contract) and Jonathan Kuminga (the Hawks own a team option for the coming year.

It was the second deal of the day for the Hawks, who earlier on Sunday, agreed to re-sign veteran CJ McCollum, who was a huge boost to Atlanta down the stretch last season. They went 19-4 once he took over as the starting point guard.
