Celtics Center Enes Kanter Legally Changes His Name

He is widely known for his staunch political stances, speaking out against human rights atrocities in various countries around the world. Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter, in fact, recently lashed out at LeBron James and Nike for their association with China.

Now, in the name of freedom everywhere, Kanter is legally changing his last name, to... well... Freedom. Enes Kanter Freedom.

This is a big week for Kanter: New name, and new citizenship, as he officially becomes a U.S. citizen on Monday. Good thing for the Turkish-born player, as his home country has 10 warrants out for his arrest, and his father was even briefly imprisoned.

In addition to taking on LeBron James, Kanter Freedom has also blasted the International Olympic Committee this past week, for taking the Winter Games to China.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has now come out in support of the big man speaking out, saying "I am glad that Enes speaks up when he feels like it. I think it’s great. No reason not to."

The 29-year-old center is back with the Boston Celtics this season, after alternating between the Portland Trail Blazers and Celtics over the past 4 seasons of his 11-year career.
