NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving And Nets Talks Break Down

Kyrie Irving was quick to say after the Brooklyn Nets were eliminated that “I don’t really plan on going anywhere,” and even insisted he was part of the team's 'brain trust' forging the Nets into the future.

Now, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania, Irving and the Nets have hit an "impasse."

Multiple sources tell The Athletic that conversations about Irving’s future have gone stagnant between him and the Nets. An impasse currently exists among the parties that clears the way for the seven-time All-Star to consider the open marketplace, those sources said.

Irving has until June 29 to decide whether to pick up his $36.9M option, or to become a free agent. To that end, he had figured the Nets would be willing to give him a long-term extension on his terms. But GM Sean Marks and the Nets front office aren't offering a blank check to Kyrie.

Charania says that "it appears both sides have serious work to do in order to find a resolution that brings Irving back to Brooklyn and his co-star in (Kevin) Durant."

The scoop is that several high-profile teams are "keeping tabs" on the situation.
